About Mysore Athletics
Mysore has always been a regular contributor to the Karnataka State’s and national talent in the field of athletics. Athletes like Seetharam (1982 Asian Games-bronze medal winner), S. Somashekar (Silver in 1985-SAF Games-100m), E.B. Shyla (represented country in the Asian Games in the 4x100m relay quartet), Reeth Abraham (represented the country in the Asian Games, Silver medal in the SAF Games-Long Jump), Sridevi (represented the country in the circuit meets in the relay event), Uma Devi (represented the country in the 1982 Asian Games-1500m), Nagendra Prasad (represented country in the SAF Games-High Jump) have done Mysore proud with their performances in the International level.
In the veteran’s section also, Mysore does not lack behind. Athletes like N.R. Shankar Rao, H.R. Ramaswamy, Yogendra M, Vijayalakshmi Singh, Poovaiah, Subba Setty, M.P. Chandrashekar, S. Mahadevu, M.N. Nanaiah, K.S. Seethamma, B.C. Parvathi, Parvathi Kantharaj, Vijaya Ramesh have all won laurels in the Asian level.
The Mysore District Athletic Association has been promoting the sport and is working with the earnest prospective to conduct different age level meets. It successfully organized the XXIV National Junior Athletic championship 2008 from 12-16th November 2008 at the Chamundivihar stadium.
