About Mysore Football

Football in Mysore has been a roller-coaster ride. In the previous years Mysore had the pride of contributing players who had gone on to represent the country and the state. The game was very popular and was played at the Doddakere Maidan grounds.

Players like Late Varadarajan (Olympian), Shankar Singh, Papanna, Rajanna, P.Narashima, Shanmugham, Nizar Ahmed Sherrif, Sabir Pasha, Nagabushan, have donned Indian colours and made everyone proud with their feats. Carlton Chapman, the former Indian player, and who has represented East Bengal, and a former coach at the Tata Football Academy has his roots in Mysore. N.S.Manju of Mysore district (from Nanjangud) has done us everyone proud by representing the Senior Indian team.

Teams like Ideal Jawa, Southern Railway Institute, K.R. Mills FC have produced talented players from time to time. Now teams like Ganesha FC, Royal FC, Durgambha FC, Police FC , Sports Union Nanjangud, Soniya FC and Govt. Text Book Press FC are the prominent teams in the league.

Presently, players like Sharath, L.Manjunath, M.S.Abhilash,have represented the State in the Santosh Trophy, Rakshith (Under-19) and kept the tradition alive. The Mysore District Football Association conducts the league matches every year and teams from the Mysore district take part in the ‘A’ Division, ‘B’ Division and ‘C’ Division leagues.
